Mike Rigdon

All Hands,

Mike Rigdon, born in Lancaster, Wisconsin, November 12, 1941. I moved to Texas in 1950. After graduation from Laneri High in Fort Worth, Texas, I enlisted in the Navy in October 1961, serving on the USS Jupiter AVS-8 from Oct. 1962 till decommissioning her in June of 1964. I stood watch on the USS Missouri BB-63 while it was "mothballed" at Bremerton, Washington. My last tour of duty was with VU-3, a Utility Squadron at North Island NAS, San Diego until July 1965. I returned to College at San Diego State for a BA & MA in Industrial Arts. I taught for 30 years at many San Diego schools.I Thought I would never have anything to do with the Navy again, until 1996, when I attended a reunion of the USS Jupiter. The rest is history. I have been historian and Newsletter Editor for the ship now for 21 years. I have hosted 8 reunions all over the country. I volunteer as a Curator aboard the USS Midway CV-41, the Aircraft Carrier Museum now a major part of the San Diego waterfront. Our motto is USS Midway – "America’s Living Symbol of Freedom."
